Hard water spots gone. Glass restored.
San Diego tap water is hard. Every spray from a misaligned sprinkler, every gust of pool overspray, every coastal breeze with salt in it — all of that leaves mineral deposits that ordinary soap and water will not remove. We use professional-grade cerium oxide polishing compounds and targeted mineral dissolvers to bring glass back to clear without etching or streaking.
What's included in this service?
- Mineral assay of the deposit (calcium carbonate vs silicate vs fluoride)
- Proper chemistry match — not every stain responds to the same product
- Cerium oxide hand polishing on stubborn embedded spots
- Professional-grade hard-water removal solution (CR-2, Glas-Weld, or similar)
- Post-treatment rinse and squeegee finish
- Identification of irrigation or pool source that caused the damage
- Recommendation on sprinkler aim adjustment or pool splash barrier
- Sealant application to slow redeposition
When do you need this service?
- Windows near an irrigation line have gone cloudy at the bottom
- Pool-facing windows show a spray pattern of spots
- Shower doors have hazed from years of mineral buildup
- You can feel the deposits — glass no longer smooth to the touch
- A recent rain revealed the damage (rain plus minerals accelerates bonding)
- Pre-sale prep — these spots lower appraisal and photo quality
- Other cleaners have tried and failed
What do homeowners ask about Hard Water?
Can all hard water stains be removed?
Most can. Stains that have been on the glass for less than 2–3 years almost always come off completely. Stains that have actually etched into the glass surface (which can happen after 5+ years and high-fluoride water) sometimes polish out with cerium oxide and sometimes can only be improved, not erased. We'll assess and tell you which you're looking at before we start.
Will this damage the glass or the coating?
Not when done correctly. The chemistry we use is calibrated to remove mineral deposits without etching the glass surface. For tinted or coated glass (low-E, spectrally selective), we use non-abrasive approaches only. We never use muriatic acid, razor blades, or abrasive pads that could strip a coating.
What causes hard water spots in San Diego?
Our municipal water has high calcium, magnesium, and sometimes fluoride content. When water droplets sit on glass and evaporate, they leave these minerals behind. Sprinkler overspray is the #1 cause on residential windows. Pool splashback is #2. Coastal homes also get salt deposition from marine air, which behaves similarly.
Will the stains come back after you remove them?
Only if the source continues. If your sprinkler still hits the window and you do nothing about it, yes, the spots return in months. Fix the source — adjust the sprinkler head angle, add a splash guard, add drip irrigation — and the restoration holds for years. We can apply a hydrophobic sealant that slows redeposition even when the source isn't fully fixed.
How much does hard water removal cost?
Pricing is per window and scales with stain severity. Light mineral haze on a standard window: $65–$95. Heavy buildup that needs cerium oxide polishing: $125–$250 per window. Whole-house restoration with 10–15 affected windows: $800–$2,400. We always quote flat-rate per window before starting.

Homeowners who hired us for this
Quarterly plan since last summer. Same tech every visit, knows our house, texts before he comes. Windows always perfect, and honestly the screens and tracks are the real difference — other companies skip those.
We had years of sprinkler spots on the south side of the house. Two other companies said they could not remove them. Shine Pro brought specific chemistry, polished them out in an afternoon, and showed me which sprinkler head was the culprit. Glass looks new.
Our production app was showing below last year. Had them clean the panels plus our windows in the same visit. Production bounced back within a week. Bundled price was better than getting the two services separately.
