Inspect solar panels safely from the ground

You do not need to walk your roof to know if your panels need cleaning.

What you'll learn

  • The production-app trick that tells you when panels are dirty
  • Ground-level inspection with binoculars (no roof walking)
  • Why walking on panels voids the warranty — even if you know how
  • When it's worth hiring a professional cleaning

Step by step

  1. Open your solar production app. Compare this month's output to same month last year.
  2. Look at panels from the ground with binoculars. Check for pollen, dust, bird droppings.
  3. Check for any visible cell discoloration or hot-spot darkening.
  4. Inspect roof valleys and gutters below the array for debris buildup.
  5. Log what you see. If production is down 10%+ or visible soiling is significant, book a cleaning.
Safety note

Never walk on solar panels. Microcracks from foot pressure degrade cell output over time and void most warranties. Cleaning is done from the ground with a water-fed pole or from the roof with proper harness and foam pads — both pro techniques.
