Inspect solar panels safely from the ground
You do not need to walk your roof to know if your panels need cleaning.
What you'll learn
- The production-app trick that tells you when panels are dirty
- Ground-level inspection with binoculars (no roof walking)
- Why walking on panels voids the warranty — even if you know how
- When it's worth hiring a professional cleaning
Step by step
- Open your solar production app. Compare this month's output to same month last year.
- Look at panels from the ground with binoculars. Check for pollen, dust, bird droppings.
- Check for any visible cell discoloration or hot-spot darkening.
- Inspect roof valleys and gutters below the array for debris buildup.
- Log what you see. If production is down 10%+ or visible soiling is significant, book a cleaning.
Never walk on solar panels. Microcracks from foot pressure degrade cell output over time and void most warranties. Cleaning is done from the ground with a water-fed pole or from the roof with proper harness and foam pads — both pro techniques.
